Sonamou was Born in 1991, from the dream of 25 young Korean artists in Paris, it’s the first Korean artist society in France. The 25 artists put there luggage inside a large shed in Issy-les-Moulineaux, where they installed their atelier.

Sonamou means pine, a tree that the leaf stays green all the year. In Asia, this tree is a symbol of perseverance and longevity. This Name shows well their determination to spread their art and culture in a foreign country which doesn’t know much about their home country.

From its creation, this group opens its door to French and foreigner artists too. Together they lived during 10 years a huge human and artistic experience. Numerous cultural exchanges between France and Korea have been made during all these years and it still continues in our days.

Their collaboration creates some kind of spiritual dimension that is noticeable in their artwork. This particular dimension is shown in their annual exhibition which presents some of the artwork of every member of this society.

For example, we can see that in the artwork of Baek Seung-Soo, who creates his work by using the same spiritual movement. The repetition creates this impression of a spiritual ritual that helps him escape and overcome his interior thoughts. This movement shows that in our actual society men lost their singularity and they are just some kind of copies of an ideal which is presented to us by all our surroundings.

All the artists in this association have a particular artistic touch that makes them unique and interesting to observe and see their evolution during all these years.

If you want to know more and see the prestigious art of all these talented artists, I invite you to go visit their new exhibition starting from 22 November to 25 November 2018, at Bastille Design Center in Paris.
